SEEMA—the Frontier—beyond which lies a No-Man’s Land, dangeriys and death-dealing, where only the Lord may protect and preserve! That is where Gauri was driven to by forces of circumstances, creations of the ever-intriguing Fate!

Slum-born, and a serf to her aunt ever since she could recollect she had to work as a house-maid, to support her impoverished family. Banke, the male-servant there, having designs on her tried to cow her down with his cunning. Finding her too clever for his coaxing he worked out a plan to ruin her. The mistress, gauri’s employer, lost her child’s necklace which was found on Gauri. She was handed over to the police amd thus she became an innocent victim, for the first time, of poisonous plans!

Her uncle arranged for her release but her aunt refused to entertain a thief in her house!

With venom surging in her heart against the villain, she found herself abandoned on the streets like a stray-dog, searching for a hovel for a shelter. Men had little use of her but for the freshness of her skin! House-wives, jealous and suspicious, shut her out, fearing a future rival in her!

Ill-luck shadowed her like a paid detective! And once when she had almost got a job she lost it on account of the whisper-campaign against her which dubbed her as a thief.

Utterly humiliated she rose for revenge. And spotting her evil-doer followed him to his house. But he was a trickster of a higher order, and arranged for the police to come to the spot, who handed her over to a reformatory. And thus the crisis was averted and she escaped miraculously the yawning abyss of the No-Man’s Land which might have been her annihilation!

But she could not assess its value as yet. She was burning with hatred, suspicion and frenzy! “Revenge! Revenge!” cried out her heart! And so, one night, she sneaked out of the reformatory and the incidents that followed exposed the villain to the police.

And now the reformatory which so far was a frightful prison for her transformed into a rendezvous for her and her savior! Here she discovered something contrary to her expectations—it was love! But before she could recover herself from her overwhelming discovery, she found it slipping out of her fingers!

Once before when her fury had goaded her on to the verge of the No-Man’s Land, the Lord had been her Protector. And now that she had met her Saviour and dedicated herself at his altar she found another tract of wilderness setting them apart!

It was the passage of too many years stretched between them. And there followed a saga of the Yearning Youth bleeding in its efforts to hold back the Unyielding Age!
